Director of Talent Acquisition
Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, this position is a strategic HR leadership role responsible for designing and executing a talent acquisition strategy that supports operational excellence, leadership and succession planning, and workforce sustainability across a geographically dispersed and operationally complex business.
The Director will work closely with senior executives, regional operational leaders, and HR teams to attract, recruit, and retain top talent. This includes ensuring a strong pipeline for critical roles from front-line operations to senior leadership across multiple sites in both Canada and the USA.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Strategy & Workforce Planning
- Develop and implement a divisional talent acquisition strategy aligned with business goals and workforce projections.
- Deliver key initiatives under the “Attract & Recruit” strategic pillar to address current and future talent needs.
- Collaborate with both internal stakeholders and external search partners to secure talent for executive and high-priority positions.
Team Leadership & Recruitment Operations
- Lead and coach a geographically dispersed team of recruiters and HR business partners across multiple regions, ensuring recruitment metrics and hiring standards are met.
- Optimize applicant tracking system functionality and manage daily recruitment operations.
- Drive direct sourcing strategies via social media, professional networks, and online job boards.
- Provide strategic guidance to address hiring challenges, streamline processes, and implement solutions.
- Manage large-scale recruitment efforts for operational, seasonal, and student positions.
- Monitor recruitment funnel data to identify bottlenecks and apply quick process improvements.
Employment Branding & Candidate Engagement
- Stay informed on industry trends and adapt recruitment strategies to evolving market conditions.
- Lead campaigns to position the organization as an employer of choice, including targeted outreach for hard-to-fill and leadership roles.
- Oversee student recruitment programs, career fairs, open houses, and community engagement initiatives.
- Leverage digital platforms and social media to build awareness and attract high-quality candidates.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of progressive HR or talent acquisition leadership experience, ideally in industrial, manufacturing, or rural operational environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (advanced education or professional certifications are an asset).
- Proven track record in workforce planning, leadership development, and organizational design.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and coaching abilities.
- Creative, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Experience advising senior leadership on HR strategies and solutions.
