Position Overview
The Talent Acquisition Specialist plays a strategic and integral role in advancing Orchard Place’s mission by sourcing, recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top talent. This position designs and executes recruitment strategies, manages the full-cycle hiring process, and ensures a seamless onboarding experience for new employees. Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, this role works closely with leaders, department heads, and external partners to forecast workforce needs, develop proactive talent pipelines, and enhance organizational branding.
 
Position Location: This is an in-office position based at our Corporate Office, located at 2116 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312.
 
Key Responsibilities
Mission, Culture & Compliance
  • Model the philosophy, values, commitments, and practices of the Sanctuary Model.
  • Promote inclusivity in all recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and policies.
Recruitment & Sourcing
  • Source, recruit, screen, and interview candidates for multiple departments and levels.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand needs, culture, and ideal candidate profiles.
  • Create and execute targeted recruitment plans, including outreach to universities, professional networks, and job boards.
  • Conduct reference checks, employment eligibility verification, and background checks.
  • Schedule interviews, coordinate interview panels, and collect structured feedback.
  • Prepare and extend offers, negotiate within guidelines, and communicate decisions to applicants.
  • Set hiring priorities, approve candidate selections, and provide salary recommendations.
  • Advise hiring managers on interview and selection best practices.
Onboarding & Orientation
  • Lead the staff onboarding process to ensure a positive new hire experience.
  • Facilitate New Hire Orientation, introducing policies, benefits, and organizational culture.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to set up access to systems, property, email, and equipment.
  • Oversee completion of paperwork and HRIS (Paycor) data entry.
  • Maintain onboarding checklists and generate tracking and compliance reports.
Strategic Initiatives & Metrics
  • Analyze workforce data to forecast staffing needs and build proactive pipelines.
  • Lead or support employer branding initiatives.
  • Track and report metrics such as time-to-fill, quality-of-hire, and candidate experience.
  • Mentor and guide the HR Coordinator on recruitment and onboarding tasks.
  • Represent Orchard Place at career fairs, networking events, and community outreach opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field and/or a minimum of three years of professional-level experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of full-cycle recruitment and onboarding experience preferred; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or behavioral health settings preferred.
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
