Position Overview:

The Director of Talent Acquisition will lead the comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract, evaluate, and hire qualified emergency medical professionals across all service levels. This critical leadership role addresses the unique challenges of EMS staffing, including 24/7 operational demands, specialized certifications, and the need for rapid deployment of qualified personnel to serve communities in medical emergencies. Working in close collaboration with the Chief Operations Officer, Vice President of Human Resources, and Regional Presidents, the Director of Talent Acquisition will oversee the external search and recruitment of new talent to the organization as well as working to develop existing team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic EMS Recruitment Leadership

  • Develop and execute talent acquisition strategies specifically designed for EMS operations and emergency medical professionals
  • Work with the team of Talent Acquisition staff to lead recruitment efforts for EMTs, Paramedics, Dispatchers, Field Supervisors, and support staff across multiple service areas
  • Build and maintain partnerships with EMS training programs, community colleges, and local schools
  • Create specialized recruitment campaigns targeting military veterans, healthcare professionals, and career changers
  • Establish relationships with state EMS offices, professional associations, and certification bodies
  • Oversee recruitment for both full-time and per diem/part-time positions to ensure 24/7 coverage
  • Work with marketing team to champion social media channels relative to recruitment
  • Work closely with the training administration team to develop and track EMS academy data.

EMS-Specific Talent Pipeline Development

  • Partner with external EMS training academies and educational institutions to create talent pipelines
  • Explore intern and apprenticeship programs for new EMS professionals
  • Create referral programs leveraging current EMS staff networks
  • Implement strategies to recruit from competing EMS services
  • Promote scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs to attract candidates to EMS careers
  • Assure 30,60, 90 day follow up with new hires to encourage feedback and resolve questions

Certification and Compliance Management

  • Working with human resources and the training administration team to ensure all candidates meet state and federal EMS certification requirements
  • Ensure the local HR and Training Admin teams are coordinating background checks, drug screenings, and other assessments

Specialized Recruitment Operations

  • Develop recruitment strategies for hard-to-fill positions including Critical Care Paramedics and EMS Supervisors
  • Create targeted campaigns for bilingual candidates in diverse service areas
  • Implement rapid hiring processes, while remaining compliant,  to address urgent staffing needs and emergency coverage
  • Manage recruitment for rural and urban service areas with different staffing challenges

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of recruiters specializing in EMS recruitment
  • Coordinate with marketing team on employer branding specific to EMS culture and mission
  • Collaborate with operations leadership on shift scheduling and deployment strategies prior and during placement

Data Analysis and Workforce Planning

  • Analyze position control data to predict staffing needs and recruitment timing
  • Monitor industry turnover rates and develop retention-focused recruitment strategies
  • Track key metrics including time-to-fill for critical positions and cost-per-hire
  • Prepare workforce planning reports considering seasonal variations and community growth
  • Evaluate recruitment ROI and adjust strategies based on performance data
  • Maintain ongoing staffing report and prepare position updates to leadership

Work Environment: This position requires regular travel to meet with potential customers, stakeholders, and various market locations.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • EMS field experience/awareness preferred
  • Degree in Healthcare Administration, Human Resources, or related field
  • Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or healthcare recruiting credentials preferred
  • Experience with rural EMS recruitment and retention strategies
  • Experience with union environments and collective bargaining agreements
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends when needed for recruitment events
  • Willingness to travel to EMS conferences, job fairs, and training academies
  • Valid driver's license and ability to visit field operations and ambulance stations
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening consistent with Priority standards
