Overview

The Talent Acquisition Specialist will serve as the primary talent point of contact for Steel Dynamics facilities in the Southern United States. This role supports the full lifecycle of recruiting efforts, including apprenticeships, internships, and professional hiring. The specialist will build partnerships with educational institutions, coordinate recruiting events, and help strengthen local talent pipelines for both skilled trades and professional career paths.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the regional talent acquisition representative for the Southwest, supporting Sinton, TX, Columbus, MS & Benson, AZ facilities, including Columbus Flat Roll, Biocarbon Solutions, and Aluminum Dynamics.
  • Manage the posting, interviewing, and selection process for apprenticeship programs, serving as the primary contact between Steel Dynamics and educational partners for mechanical and electrical skilled trades.
  • Support college recruiting efforts for four-year degree paths, including engineering, accounting, sales, information technology, and related disciplines.
  • Coordinate and participate in career fairs, classroom visits, and recruiting events at local universities during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Lead high school outreach efforts to identify and recruit students interested in skilled trades career paths, strengthening SDI’s pipeline of future apprentices.
  • Partner with facility payroll teams and managers to understand talent needs, align recruiting strategies, and ensure consistent messaging across divisions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local colleges, technical schools, and workforce development partners to enhance visibility of SDI opportunities.
  • Support professional staff recruiting, including third-party recruiter engagement and candidate sourcing.
  • Serve on college advisory boards and committees to support academic and operational initiatives.
  • Actively participate in industry organizations and contribute through committee service.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in recruiting, workforce development, or talent acquisition; experience in manufacturing or skilled trades recruiting is preferred.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple facilities.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Available for regional travel and overnight stays to support industry, university, technical school and facility engagements.
