Reporting to the Director, Talent Management & Total Rewards, this role provides day-to-day support for a wide range of recruitment activities and works closely with the Office of the Provost to support the Faculty recruitment process. Key responsibilities include responding to routine inquiries, managing job postings and applications, drafting offer letters, supporting hiring managers through the full recruitment cycle, and providing onboarding support to new employees. The incumbent also plays a key role in improving processes and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery.
This position involves managing a high volume of tasks with competing priorities and shifting deadlines. Strong coordination with both internal HR colleagues, the MRU community and potential candidates is essential. The role requires sound judgment, the ability to assess risks, and initiative in identifying and acting on opportunities. The incumbent will also conduct research, provide advice, make recommendations, and influence decisions regarding talent acquisition initiatives and projects.
Processes job requisitions, creates job postings and posts external job advertisements.
Ensures recruitment practices are in accordance with policies and Collective Agreements.
Prepare offers of employment with candidates, in collaboration with the hiring manager.
Set up new employees or visitors in the HR system, setting up the employee file and ensuring employee documentation is gathered and properly stored.
Attend career fairs and other networking events to attract candidates to MRU and promote our employment brand to the students and general public while promoting MRU as a top employer.
Ensure consistent and timely communication with candidates throughout the process to ensure a positive candidate experience.
May collaborate with hiring managers to provide full-cycle recruitment support throughout the recruitment process including, but not limited, to:
Confidentially review and shortlist resumes in and present the qualified candidates to the hiring manager,
Conduct pre-screen phone or virtual interviews with shortlisted candidates as required, presenting top candidates to the hiring manager for review with a summarized report, and
Provide recommendations and advise hiring managers on the final shortlist and next steps,
Participate in panel interviews when necessary, including facilitating the process,
In collaboration with the hiring committee, confidentially assist the hiring manager on ranking of interviewed candidates and final candidate selection,
Prepare customized reference check questions and forms based on the role and conduct reference checks,
Coordinate pre-employment testing or assessments, if required, as part of the selection process,
In collaboration with the Director, Talent Management & Total Rewards, advise hiring managers on establishing terms of employment offers, including determining salary (including internal equity and external market data) and probation, and
Provide other administrative support as required.
Provide recommendations and guidance to hiring managers for making effective and informed hiring decisions, which are confidential and sometimes sensitive in nature.
Develop, maintain and facilitate recruitment training sessions for MRU employees.
Provide day-to-day administrative and technical support to hiring managers, as required.
Research and develop tools to improve the recruitment process and timelines.
Gathers information and provides basic interpretation or analysis; coordinates regular HR reporting for talent acquisition; creates reports, charts, presentations and spreadsheets.
Completes reports, as required, for Service Canada.
Makes routine updates to the Application Tracking system and recruitment portion of the MRU website
Provides administrative support in the development and delivery of talent acquisition solutions, projects, programs and processes; Updates employee guidebook, hiring guidelines, onboarding documents, marketing materials.
Maintains recruitment records; Ensures all talent acquisition information is handled according to FOIP guidelines.
Coordinates and delivers orientation sessions for new hires.
Conducts regular reviews of onboarding content and timelines by employee groups to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
Post secondary education in a related field.
3–5 years of progressive experience in human resources, with a focus on full-cycle talent acquisition.
Experience with international recruitment and working in a post-secondary or academic environment is considered an asset.
Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designation is an asset.
Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems and other recruitment tools.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and build positive relationships with candidates and hiring managers.
High level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail is critical.
Well-developed time management skills and experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines and constant interruptions.
Enthusiastic communicator with strong presentation skills. Confident in representing MRU and effectively engaging new employees during onboarding and orientation.
Ability to manage expectations, prioritize and communicate effectively.
High level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
Ability to independently problem solve.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy.
Required to write clearly and concisely.
Proficient in using computer programs or applications on a regular basis.
Knowledge of relevant industry trends and best practices.
Salary: Starting salary $63,909.00 - $72,366.00 per annum
